2009 Senior Open Twenty-two players participated in the inaugural South Carolina Senior Open on March 28 - 29 in Clemson, South Carolina.
Players traveled from Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia to challenge South Carolina seniors in the event.
South Carolina Life Master Klaus Pohl won the Open Section. He defeated Expert Wayne Christensen in the final round, causing a three-way tie for first in the Open Section, with Pohl winning the tie-break over Tennessee Master John Patty and Christensen of Simpsonville, South Carolina. Michael Bacon of Georgia won the U1800 section with a draw in the last round over Russell Thurmond, putting Thurmond in a three-way tie for second with Wayne Hedger of Georgia and Leroy Dillard of Greer, South Carolina.
Bill Taylor of the Aiken County Chess Club was the Tournament Director.
